Presented at Berlin New Media Week 2026 as part of BYOB (Bring Your Own Beamer), Passage of Perception reworks Landscape of Perception into a passage, developed in collaboration with Xenorama. The work connects neural activity, generative visuals, and spatial sound to explore how perception unfolds between human cognition and machine mediation. Visitors wearing EEG headsets directly shape the visual environment and soundscape.
In its Passage edition the piece becomes something to walk through. Suspended layers of scrim and mirror foil divide the space into thresholds that bend perception, with the generative landscape projected across the fabric until image and architecture dissolve into one continuous field. The installation integrates three core systems: EEG control, AI-driven visuals, and a sound-reactive environment. Brainwave data is transmitted via OSC to TouchDesigner and Max/MSP, where it modulates visual and auditory parameters. Machine-learning models trained on audiovisual datasets generate the imagery, while lighting and projection react to both EEG input and ambient sound. The result operates as a live perceptual feedback loop, blurring the boundary between observer and system.
Staged in the basement corridor of LA18 Foundation, the work is entered and passed through rather than viewed from a fixed point, its length turning perception itself into a route. Shifts in each person's focus and relaxation surface in the passage's light and sound. Following its first version at the 2025 PACE Festival in Potsdam, Passage of Perception continues to foreground subtlety and awareness over spectacle, inviting visitors to experience the interplay between attention, cognition, and space as a shared, evolving terrain.
